Backup:
-
Take a vRanger backup of the VM you wish to replicate
-
Bring the savepoint to the remote location and restore the VM
**NOTE you will need to install vRanger on the remote site to accomplish the restore. Once the restore is complete you can delete this second vRanger instance.
-
On the original vRanger Create a replication job for this VM and on the “Target host selection” screen, select the remote host with the restored VM.
-
Then Press the “…” button in the top right hand corner. This will bring up a list of all VM’s on that host. Select the restored VM and press OK.
-
Configured the rest of the job.
-
Run the job. When the job runs the first time it will seem stuck at Re-hashing VM, but it is just creating files to use against the source VM to find the changes. This can take a few hours if the machine is large.
Local Replication:
Requirement: A host on the source site that will be shipped to the remote after first pass is complete.
-
Create a replication job and point it to the host that will be brought to the remote site.
-
Run the job and ship the host after job completion. Remove it from vRangers inventory if it was added separate from a vCenter.
-
After the host is brought back online at the remote site, add it back into vRanger.
-
Edit the replication job and point it to the remote host and select the “…” button at the top right of the screen. This will bring up a list of VM’s on that host. Select the VM that is related to this job.
-
Run the job.
