Getting the following error when installing Foglight Management Server (FMS) license:
Error occurred installing license.
Product is not licensed for the host. License is rejected.
Mismatched between the hostname used by the Foglight server and the hostname provided to Licensing to be licensed.
WORKAROUND 1
Open the license file that was provided by the License team using Notepad or any other text editors. Search for the line that contains hosts= which will indicated the host that the license is for.
For example:
hosts=host1
On the FMS host, open a prompt and type the command:
hostname
Take note of what is returned. In this case, the reason the error is occurring is because only the 'host' part of the name was used to build the license file. The command above returns a fully qualified domain name which is what should have been used to build the license file.
For example:
host1.domain.com
vs. just host1
In such cases, please contact Licensing to generate a new license using the correct hostname.
WORKAROUND 2
Another possibility if you are installing Foglight on a Unix or Linux server is that the hostname is associated with the standard loopback IP address (127.0.0.1) in the server's /etc/hosts file, e.g.:
127.0.0.1 host1
On this line in /etc/hosts, replace 127.0.0.1 with the IP address of one of the server's real IP interface, e.g:
The /etc/host file should look like
192.168.11.113 hostname
127.0.0.1 localhost
After performing the changes on the /etc/hosts file, restart the FMS and attempt to re-apply the license.
WORKAROUND 3
Login to the FMS host and navigate to the Foglight installation log directory (e.g. /quest/foglight/logs). Open the first ManagementServer log file which normally ends with *_001.log (e.g. ManagementServer_2013-09-05_102350_001.log)
Search for the line which contains these words (without the quotes): "Host name:"
For example:
JVM: Sun Microsystems Inc. Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 19.1-b02
Common library version: 562-20110915-1455-b12
Host name: host1.domain.com
In the above example, host1.domain.com is the hostname being picked up by FMS; therefore, this is the one that needs to be licensed. If your license file does not contain the above mentioned hostname, then please contact Licensing to generate a new license with the correct hostname.
