How to Add/Remove/Change Tapes on a Tape Library Controlled by NetVault (4042248)

This article provide the instructions to add/remove/change the media on a tape library controlled by NetVault.

Before opening the door to change tapes in a NetVault controlled library, you must issue the Open Door command from the Device Management screen. NetVault attempts to put a software lock on the library door which prevents anyone from opening the door without issuing the Open Door command. Moreover, if you do not issue this command, NetVault will not know when tapes are added, removed or rearranged, and may attempt to load non-existent media.

• In List View
  1. From the left navigation pane, select Manage Devices.
  2. Select the List View radio button at the top of the screen if it isn't already selected.
  3. Identify the Tape Library on which tapes will be added/removed/changed and click on Manage Library (cogwheel at the far right from the Tape Library name).
  4. Press the [Open Door] button.
  5. Wait for the Door status to change from Closed to Open.
  6. Proceed to add/remove/change the tapes on the physical library.
  7. Press the [Close Door] button to update the library content in NetVault.

• In Tree View
  1. From the left navigation pane, select Manage Devices.
  2. Select the Tree View radio button at the top of the screen if it isn't already selected.
  3. Click the tape library on which tape will be added/removed/changed.
  4. Select Open Door from the dialogue menu.
  5. When the media has been loaded/removed/updated, click the library again and select Door Closed. NetVault will refresh the library content.
