When deploying Microsoft Windows operating systems, Windows Setup walks through certain phases and creates and filles specific logfiles which are related to Windows Setup. Why a specific step during Windows Setup has failed, is sometimes hard to find out without further diagnosis. Unattend files are also common for which actions and errors are logged into separate files for better analysis.
Causa

There are several causes for Windows Setup errors and this article focuses on diagnosing Windows Setup errors to determine the root cause. In many cases, when using Image Deployments, the Anti-Virus solution inside the Image, has caused several issues which were not explicitely identifyable using the log files discussed in the Resolution section below.
Risoluzione

Collect and analyze the following logfiles which are created during Windows Setup:
%windir%\panther\setupact.log AND
%windir%\panther\setuperr.log
%windir%\panther\unattendGC\setupact.log AND
%windir%\panther\unattendGC\setuperr.log
The Microsoft TechNet article under "Additional Information" provides detailed information on these logfiles and more log files are available.
