On iOS, lost mode will lock the device and show a message, phone number, and/or footnote. The admin can then request the device's location or play a sound on it. Lost mode also activates low-power mode (as indicated by the yellow battery icon in the screenshots).
First, do not restart a device while it is in lost mode. It will be unable to reconnect to the local Wi-Fi network, and it won't allow you to unlock the device with a passcode or Touch ID. The solution is to use a feature Apple added to macOS 10.12 called tethered caching. Once connected via USB, the device will share the Mac's network connection, allowing it to receive KACE Cloud commands.
On Sierra, turn on tethered caching by running `sudo tethered-caching` in Terminal. On High Sierra, use the UI in System Preferences > Sharing:
