After completing a migration from QAM to Exchange Online with Archive Shuttle, users may notice that all emails in the target archive are marked as "read." This is observed even if some messages were "unread" in the original QAM archive. Customers may be concerned that the original read/unread status of messages is not being preserved.
This behaviour is expected and is due to the way Quest Archive Manager stores email items. QAM does not retain or record the read/unread status of items in its database.
All items are stored as "read." Because this information is not available from the source, Archive Shuttle cannot migrate or restore the original read/unread status to Exchange Online.
No action is required, as this is by design and not a product defect. All items migrated from QAM to Exchange Online using Archive Shuttle will appear as "read" in the target mailbox. If your organization requires preservation of read/unread status, this limitation should be considered when planning migrations from QAM.
