Gathering error from agents, Error text: 'wmic' is not recognized as an internal or external command -
Description
Gather logs are showing an error message similar to the following:
Error message: Component '{CA481CF8-0EEA-4705-BE00-F4A1FEA6DE6A}' failed to install on agent '*****'. Error text: ADC Error: Cannot install package VCRedist. Reason: A required command-line action failed. Error code: 255. Error text: 'wmic' is not recognized as an internal or external command,operable program or batch file.'wmic' is not recognized as an internal or external command,operable program or batch file.'wmic' is not recognized as an internal or external command,operable program or batch file.4 was unexpected at this time..

Cause
WMIC is the program which will enable access to Windows Management Instrumentation console. The agent will require access to that program for getting various components on the host machine. This issue will occur when WMIC is not present in the system PATH environment variable. -
Resolution
To resolve this issue, do the following:
- Open Command Prompt in the machine, where nodeagent has to be started.
- Run the following command for adding folder containing wmic to PATH environment variable:
SET PATH=C:\Windows\System32\wbem\;%PATH%; - After setting the path variable using the command above, run the following command to confirm whether wmic is picked properly:
where wmic
The command above should return the following as output:
"C:\Windows\System32\wbem\WMIC.exe" - After confirming, restart the agent service in the services console or reboot the host if possible.
If error persists set the Environment Variable Path to absolute values:
1. Right click on This PC in File Explorer and go to Properties |Advanced system settings | Environment Variables
2. Go down to path and edit on the next screen click edit on the wbem variable and put in the following path:
C:\Windows\System32\wbem
