To define agent properties
Select an object under the Agent node in the Object Explorer.
Click .
Complete the fields as necessary. Review the following for additional information:
Service Startup Account |
Description |
Service state |
Displays the current state of the SQL Server agent. |
Startup type |
Displays whether this agent starts automatically or manually. |
Startup account |
Select whether to use the system account or an alternate account and password to startup the agent. |
Auto Restart Services |
Description |
Auto restart SQL Server if it stops unexpectedly |
Select this checkbox to automatically restart the SQL Server if it stops unexpectedly. |
Auto restart SQL Server Agent if it stops unexpectedly |
Select this checkbox to automatically restart the SQL Server Agent if it stops unexpectedly. |
Error Log |
Description |
File name |
Enter or browse to the location of the error log file. To view the error log, click View. |
Include execution trace messages |
Select this checkbox to include trace messages in the log file. Caution: This option can result in a very large log file. You should only select this checkbox when investigating a specific SQL Server Agent problem. |
Write OEM file |
Select this checkbox to write errors from the client OEM. |
Net send recipient |
Enter the network name of the user to send a network message. Click Test to verify that this option is working. |

To view an agent error log
Select an object under the Agent node in the Object Explorer.
Click .
Click View in the Error Log pane.
Complete the fields as necessary. Review the following for additional information:

Select the type of error you want to view. |
Containing text |
Enter a partial or full word/number that is contained in the error message. |
