Managing Agents

Brocade Switches on earlier versions of FOS

Foglight for Storage Management collects information from Brocade switches on earlier versions of FOS via a Brocade SMI Agent on a management host. The SMI Agent talks to proxy switches, one in each fabric. These proxy switches are identified through the use of a configuration tool provided by the SMI Agent. Foglight for Storage Management does not perform any configuration of the SMI Agent. The account is native to the SMI Agent.

Your environment must meet the following requirements:

•
The Brocade SMI server is installed on a server/host other than the server/host running the Foglight for Storage Management Agent Manager.
•
The SMI Agent is enabled (it is not enabled by default).
•
The SMI Agent requires a CIMOM that is SMI-S 1.1 or 1.2 CTP conformant.
•
Brocade switches are not configured as Access Gateway switches. Foglight for Storage Management does not collect from switches configured as Access Gateway switches.
•
Foglight for Storage Management requires a user account with read access. An account with write/admin access is required to add the switch to BNA, but is not required for monitoring.

Configuring Agents to Monitor Brocade SAN Switches

You configure an agent to monitor the Brocade management server hosting the SMI Agent. All switches managed by this management server are monitored. For details, see Configuring Agents to Monitor Storage Devices.

Cisco SAN Switches

Foglight for Storage Management collects information from Cisco switches through the native MDS 9000 - 9700 series embedded SAN/NX-OS System software CLI.

Requirements for Cisco SAN Switches

Your environment must meet the following requirements:

•
Each Cisco switch has a valid SSH interface.
•
Foglight for Storage Management requires a valid user account with read/write access on each Cisco switch in the SAN. The CLI command types used are:
show hardware
show wwn switch
show flogi database
show interface | include "fc|Port mode|Port WWN"
show interface | include "fc|Port WWN"
show interface counters
show vsan
