Running the Impact Wizard from a CSR

When you run the Impact Wizard from a CSR, you can only run it against objects that are associated with the CSR and contained in environments that are part of the CSR’s assigned migration path. When run from the Object Management menu, you can run the wizard against any object type or environment. For more information, see the next section, Running the Impact Wizard from the Object Management Menu .

To run the Impact Wizard from a CSR:

Select the Objects tab.

In the Object List, right-click on the object you want to run the wizard against. Then in the pop-up menu, select Impact Analysis Wizard.

Stat launches the Object Impact Wizard.

Click Next>.

In the next window, the Impact Wizard prompts you to specify the search parameters you want.

(Optional) Select the Analyze impact on all objects on CSR option if you want the wizard to analyze the impact of all of the objects in your CSR.

Select the environment(s) you want the wizard to search.

You can have the wizard search any of the environments in the migration path.

Select the object types you want analyzed in the search. Click Select All if you want the wizard to analyze the impact of your change on all object types. Click Select None to deselect all objects.

(Optional) Select the Find any occurrence option if you want the wizard to return any object that references the name of the object.

For example, if you are running the wizard against an object named “employee,” then the wizard will return any file that contains the string “employee” regardless of what's to the left or right of the string, such as “PS_EMPLOYEE” or “stat.employee.” If you do not select this check box, then the wizard returns only those objects that reference the object name exactly.

Click Next> to continue with the wizard. Click Finish if for some reason you want to exit the wizard.


	NOTE: Stat displays an error message if for some reason it is unable to establish a connection to one of the selected environments. However, you can continue searching any of the other environments you may have selected.

In the next window, the wizard displays a message telling you that it is ready to begin processing. It also tells you that while it is processing you can cancel the search by pressing the Stop Search button.

Click Next>.

In the next window, the wizard starts compiling data and reports its progress. The results of the analysis are displayed by object type. When finished, the wizard displays the total number of impacted objects.

The wizard is now ready to generate a report from the search results

Click Next to see the report.

From here, you can add objects to the CSR, print the report, or export the report.

To add one or more of the objects to your CSR, select the objects and click Finish.

You can select single objects or you can use the <Shift> and <Ctrl> keys to select a range of objects. The wizard displays above the Finish button the number of objects you select. If you want to add all of the objects, click the Select All button. Then click Finish. The selected objects are added to the CSR.

To print or export this list, click the appropriate button.

Running the Impact Wizard from the Object Management Menu

When you run the Impact Wizard from the Object Management menu, you must specify the change management module, the environment, the object type and the individual objects you want to run the wizard against. You then specify the object type(s) you want to run the wizard on.

After you specify the search criteria you want, the wizard functions in the same manner as when it is run from a CSR, except that if the wizard identified any impacted objects, you can add the objects to any CSR you want (using the Search CSR Engine), or you can add them to a new CSR.

Object History Wizard

CSRs maintain a complete a history of all the changes made to the objects they are associated with. These changes are documented either in the Object Comments window, the Description, Detail Logs, and Resolution tabs, or in the objects themselves. With the Object History Wizard, you can view a history of these changes by conducting a search either by object type or by CSR:

If by object type, the wizard returns a list showing every object of the selected type in a particular environment that has a history of changes recorded in Stat.

•

If by CSR, the wizard returns a list showing every object associated with a selected CSR. At this point, you can conduct a second search on individual objects. After specifying the search criteria you want, the wizard returns a list of CSRs that the selected objects are associated with. You can then open any one of these CSRs to learn more about the object changes documented in that CSR.

The Object History Wizard is especially useful during an application upgrade:

After running the Impact Analysis Wizard on the database scripts and identifying which schema object definitions will be affected, you can run the Object History Wizard to determine if any of these schema objects have been customized.

If you are going through a PeopleSoft upgrade and you have been using Stat for some time, you can use the Object History Wizard in conjunction with PeopleSoft Compare Reports to obtain the business reasons for your customizations as well as a listing of all the objects affected by the customizations. The Object History Wizard tells you which objects have been changed and why, thus eliminating a time-consuming step of the Compare process.

To run the Object History Wizard, select Object Management | Object History Wizard. By default, the wizard searches by object type, but whether you search by object type or by CSR, after returning the list of objects, the remaining steps of the wizard are identical.

To search for objects by object type:

In the Search by field, select Object Type.

In the Module field, select the change management support module in which you want to run the wizard.

Options include PeopleSoft, Oracle Applications, and Generic Applications.


	NOTE: You can set a default value to be displayed in the Module field. To do this, select User Options \| Stat Options. Then in the Stat User Options window, select the value you want in the Default Module field.

In the Environment field, select the environment that contains the object.

If you do not select an environment, the wizard searches on all the active environments defined in Stat.

In the Object Type field, select the object type.

The wizard displays a list of matching objects. If you do not select an object type, the wizard displays all objects contained in the selected environment.

In the list of matching objects, select the object whose history you want to view.

If you do not select an object, the wizard searches for the object type and displays the history for all objects of that type.

Click Next>.

At this point, the wizard is ready to conduct a search for the CSRs associated with the objects you selected.

To search for objects by CSR:

In the Search by field, select CSR.

The window changes to facilitate a search by CSR.

Click the Browse button (...) next to the Select CSR field.

This opens the Search CSR Engine.

Use the Search CSR Engine to locate the CSR you want. When finished, select it and click OK.

The wizard displays a list of all the objects associated with the selected CSR.

In the list of matching objects, select the objects whose history you want to view.

If you do not select an object, the wizard searches the history for all objects associated with the CSR.

Click Next>.

At this point, the wizard is ready to conduct a search for the CSRs associated with the objects you selected.

To search for CSRs associated with selected objects:

In the Service Domain field, select a service domain.

By default, the wizard searches all the service domains that you have access to. If you select this option, the Application Is and CSR Type Is options are disabled, since these items are service domain-specific.

If searching by application, select the Application Is option. Then select the application.

If searching by type of CSR, select the CSR Type Is option. Then select the type.

(Optional) Enter keywords in the Title fields.

Click Next>.

In the next window, the wizard prompts you to select additional display and search options.

In the Display Options section, specify one of the following three display options:

•

Show Default Search Results - select if you want to the view the default list of objects in the results

•

Show Object Comments in Search Results - select if you want to include any comments regarding the object in the results

•

Show only Objects with Related Custom Objects in Search Results - select if you only want to view objects that were used as the basis for custom objects in the results, along with the custom objects themselves

If you want to view the object in all environments, select Disregard Object Environment.

If selected, Stat ignores the environment selected on the first screen and searches for any CSR containing the object in question.

Click Next>.

The wizard displays the search results. A blank results window indicates that the object is not associated with any CSR. Objects are sorted by update date in descending order, most recent first. To open a CSR, double-click on the object. To close the wizard, click Finish.

You can print or export the list by clicking the Export or Print buttons.


	NOTE: You can use this wizard to find all objects in a module which have been modified. Open the wizard, select the module you want, and click Next> without selecting an Environment or Object Type. Continue pressing the Next> button until the report is generated. This report contains all objects that have been changed within the selected module.
