Managing the Active Administrator Foundation and Data Services

This section of the Server Manager contains tools to manage Active Administrator Foundation and Data Services.

Stopping and starting AFS and ADS services

You can stop and start the Active Administrator Foundation Service (AFS) and the Active Administrator Data Services (ADS).

To stop and start services

Setting the services startup accounts

You can change the password for the Active Administrator Foundation Service (AFS) and the Active Administrator Data Services (ADS) startup account.

To change the password for the startup account

Select the AFS & ADS Services tab.

Click Set Account.

Type a new password for the account.

Click OK.
Managing logging for services

You can enable or disable logging of the Active Administrator Foundation Service (AFS) and the Active Administrator Data Services (ADS). You also can view the contents of the log files.

Clearing the AFS cache

There may be a need to clear the Active Administrator Foundation Service (AFS) cache.

To clear the AFS cache

Select the AFS & ADS Services tab.

Click Clear AFS Cache.

Click Yes.
Setting port numbers for services

The default value for the Active Administrator Foundation Service (AFS) port is 15601. The default value for the Active Administrator Data Services (ADS) port is 15602.

To set the port for AFS

From the Start menu, open AA Server Manager, and select the AFS & ADS Services tab.

Type a value in the Foundation Service Port Number box.

Click Set AFS Port.
To set the port for ADS
1
From the Start menu, open AA Server Manager, and select the AFS & ADS Services tab.

Type a value in the Data Service Port Number box.

Click Set ADS Port.
Enabling SQL Full-Text Search

Active Administrator audit reports use SQL Full-Text Search to filter event descriptions to help reports run faster. When the SQL Full-Text Search is enabled, the current index status is displayed and clicking on the status will update it.

To enable SQL Full-Text Search

Start the Active Administrator Server Manager. For more information, see Starting the Active Administrator Server Manager .

Select the AFS & ADS Services tab, under SQL Full-Text Search, click Enable.
The current index status is displayed and clicking on the status will update it.
To disable SQL Full-Text Search

Start the Active Administrator Server Manager. For more information, see Starting the Active Administrator Server Manager .

Select the AFS & ADS Services tab, under SQL Full-Text Search, click Disable.
The current index status is displayed and clicking on the status will update it.

Updating Active Administrator licenses

NOTE: If you are not compliant with the Active Administrator license, a warning message is sent once a day. In addition, the number of licensed users and enabled users in Active Administrator display at the bottom of the console display. If you click the numbers, the License Dashboard opens.
To apply a new license file

From the Start menu, open AA Server Manager, and select the Licensing & Security tab.

Click Update License.

To view details about the current license, click Details.

To update the license, click Update License.

Locate the license file (*.dlv), and click Open.

 

Managing Security

Active Administrator makes use of FIPS 140-2 compliant software to secure information and includes a security management tool in the Active Administrator Server Manager. For more information, see Starting the Active Administrator Server Manager . The Security Manager allows you to perform the following tasks related to the Active Administrator security.

To manage security

Start the Active Administrator Server Manager. For more information, see Starting the Active Administrator Server Manager .

Select the Licensing & Security tab, and under the Security Manager section, click Manage.
The current security status is displayed.

Managing the passphrase

A passphrase is used to control access to Active Administrator data. A passphrase is similar to a password in usage, but is generally longer for added security. Active Administrator content will be secured using the passphrase and requires the passphrase for accessing the content or for changing the passphrase.

CAUTION:

You must know the current passphrase to change or restore the passphrase. It is very important to record the passphrase in a secure location where it can be retrieved when required.
•
If the passphrase is lost, it will be impossible to access Active Administrator data. You will have to uninstall Active Administrator, remove all associated files, and start a new installation of Active Administrator. For more information, see Recovering from a lost passphrase .
To create a passphrase
1
Type a passphrase that is between 25 and 32 characters in length and then type it again to confirm.

Record the passphrase in a secure location.

CAUTION: You must know the current passphrase to change or restore the passphrase. It is very important to record the passphrase in a secure location where it can be retrieved when required.

Click OK.
The registry files and database will be secured using the passphrase.
To change a passphrase
1
In the Passphrase Management section, click Change.

Type the current passphrase.

Type a new passphrase that is between 25 and 32 characters in length and then type it again to confirm.

Record the passphrase in a secure location.

Click OK.

Review the informational message.

Click Yes to proceed.
The registry files and database will be secured using the new passphrase.
