On long running and busy NVBU installations, the software could end up with lots of unnecessary sets (Selection sets, Target sets....), making job creation confusing or difficult.
There are tools to delete sets (from the GUI and CLI using nvsetdelete) see SOL79846 https://support.quest.com/Search/SolutionDetail.aspx?id=SOL79846&category=Solutions&SKB=1
However before starting to remove sets one should determine which sets are in use by active jobs and which sets can safely be removed.
To obtain a list of currently used sets, one could use NVBU Reports to help.
For instance the "Historic Jobs - By Date" displays by default all jobs that have run in the past 7 days (generally a backup cycle; note that the date can easily be changed when running this report).
This report can be modified to add a column for each set in use to produce a list of jobs that have run and the sets they have used.
- In NVBU > Reports > right click the 'Historic Jobs - By date" report > Edit/ View Job
- In the bottom section called "Selected components" double click "Historic Jobs - By Date"
- The "report component editor" window appears
- Go to the "Field the Selection" tab
- In the "Available Fields" section, look for all the variables finishing with "set" and double click them so they are added to the "Selected fileds" section below
- Save this window then save the report again by accepting to overwrite
- Run the report
This should show all the jobs that have run in the last 7 days and all the sets each one has used, essentially producing a list of active sets used by active jobs.
