Description

We register a SQL instance using a server name and port number. In the Log Shipping Wizard, we use the SQL instance a subscriber in a log shipping plan. However, we get an error on “Subscribers” page when "next" is clicked. Note that the port number is not part of the SQL instance name in the “Specify Subscribers” field on the "Subscribers" page.
The full error is "SQL Server: xxxx Domain user: xxxx Authentication type: Negotiate A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL server. The server was not found or was not accessible. We should be able to have the ability to use a port number with the SQL name in the log shipping wizard."
Cause

Software Defect. This issue is being tracked as LS-897: "Log shipping wizard does not use the port number of a registered SQL instance"
What the wizard is doing is its querying the Server for its name and using that without the port number. The server is registered with just an IP address and port number. But the wizard shows the SQL instance name instead with no port number
Résolution

WORKAROUND 1
Turn SQL browser service on. That will just make it so it can look up whatever port it needs
WORKAROUND 2

Create an alias with port number in the name.

STATUS

Waiting for fix in a future release of LiteSpeed.
