The below error may occur when going to the properties of an object after searching for the object within the object picker or from within the Browser node of the console:
"The properties for this item are not available"
This occurs because Active Directory Users and Computers is not installed.
How to install Active Directory Users and Computers on Windows 2008 R2:
1. Go to Start | Administrative Tools | Server Manager
2. Click on Features on the left hand side of the Server Manager and then Add Features on the right hand side
3. Expand the below and select "AD DS Snap-Ins and Command-Line Tools"
Remote Server Administration Tools | Role Administration Tools | AD DS and AD LDS Tools | AD DS Tools
How to install Active Directory Users and Computers on Windows 2008 (not R2):
1. Go to Start | Administrative Tools | Server Manager
2. Click on Features on the left hand side of the Server Manager and then Add Features on the right hand side
3. Expand the below and select "Active Directory Domain Controller Tools"
