This part of the documentation explains how to start migrating using Mailbox Shuttle. The following steps should be performed in order to configure the product:
We are then ready to perform the first end-to-end migration, and this can be done as follows:
The What’s Next section continues on from this basic walk through.
Mailbox Shuttle needs to be allowed to scan Active Directory for metadata to provide useful information in the user interface. In order to configure this, proceed as follows:
In this section we describe how to add the source Exchange environment, set a default server, and to configure a default mapping.
This is performed as follows:
A few moments after adding the Exchange environment a default server will be shown in the user interface. If required this server can be changed as follows:
This is where we can configure the default ‘answers’ used when creating a mapping and allows us to greatly speed up the process of creating multiple groups of mappings. To configure the default mapping proceed as follows:
In this section we configure the Office 365 endpoint for the migration. It is performed as follows:
This section shows how to add the first mapping for migration, and starts to explain the concept of groups which are used to create migration batches. It can also be used as a checklist for further migrations.
This section explains how to create a group.
At first it is recommended to migrate one or two users to Office 365 to ensure that the end-to-end configuration is correct, and the environment understand.
This section explains how to configure the options on a group, and how we will configure them in a simple way for the purposes of this end-to-end test.
Once the mapping is done, this section can be used to show the progress of the migration.
This section explains how to complete the migration of the first batch
This section leads you to more detailed information regarding the user interface and using Mailbox Shuttle
One the mapping has been created its progress through configuration and migration can be reviewed on the ‘Stage 1: Sync’ page. This page in the user interface shows key information relating to the group of mappings, and allows actions to be performed on them.
There is a wealth of information shown on this screen in the user interface regarding the mappings, they are described in more detail in the Administrator Guide, and include the following:
The name of the batch/group
The individual mailbox email addresses which are being migrated.
The current status of the mapping.
The progress of the mapping through its migration.
The date and time that the mailbox data will start to be copied to the target.
Any information or error messages relating to the mapping will be shown in this column.
There are several actions which can be performed on mappings, they are described in more detail in the Administrator Guide, and include the following:
If required mappings can be selected and the migration paused, resumed, removed or retried. Retries can be needed from time to time if there has been a transient error when communicating with the target environment.
The migration for one or more mappings can be disabled and then re-enabled at a later time.
The page can be refreshed to obtain the most recent information from the database.
This button allows additional data columns to be added to the grid on the page. These show additional information relating to the migration. They are described in the Administrator Guide.
Since we enabled ‘auto switch’ at the group level, the mailboxes selected for the end-to-end test should go through the synchronization phase, and straight into the switch phase, and finally the status on the Stage 1 page should show ‘Completed’. At that point the mailbox will be active in Office 365.
The final step then is to add a license to the migrated mailbox.
After confirming that an end-to-end test of one or two mailbox has worked it is then time to begin creating groups containing larger numbers of users, and configuring them to be processed.
There is additional information in the Administrator Guide which explains some of the other concepts which will be encountered when migrating with Mailbox Shuttle.
If there are any questions or concerns these should be discussed with our Customer Experience Team.
