Unable to show the weblogic application status in Java Dashboard
Description

We upgraded java cartridge to 5.7.1 and the applications status are being shown down in java dashboard.We are using FMS 5.5.8 .
Cause

The agent for the Admin Server was found to be taking a lot of time in querying the MBeans of the individual managed servers. It is the structure of their environment that is causing the delay.
This could likely be because of the large environment and the no. of applications on each of those servers.
A lot of the queries that the foglight agent for AdminServer runs to collect metrics usually takes under 1 ms to complete but from the debug logs it was found that their environment takes anywhere between 20 to 30 ms and some queries even longer. Queries are made for different components monitored and that multiplied
by the no. of managed servers (24) they have makes the agent this slow to do the data collection.
There is scope for fine-tuning on the Foglight side. By default the Foglight agent monitoring the AdminServer collects metrics on the ManagedServers also - whether or not these servers have enabled foglight agents enabled. And then the Foglight server inspects data coming in and discards the duplicate metrics while restoring the data that comes from the agent for the managedServer.
Resolution

Since their environment setup causes a delay in collecting these information, the solution here would be to configure the agent on the admin server to NOT collect common metrics from managed servers - those that are already collected by individual agents. That would help reduce the time taken by queries that the agent for AdminServer requires to do, but at the same time cause no overall data loss.
1. Copy the weblogic-discovery-admin.config file from JavaEE_Agent_Home/config/agent/collector to JavaEE_Agent_Home/config/agent-override/collector.
2. Edit the file under agent-override/collector and and add the following excludes
You need to add the excludes section at two places in the config file

"mnged-server2",

where mnged-server1 and mnged-server2 refer to the names of the managed servers, i.e how the names appear in the JavaEE dashboards.

3. Restart Adminserver
4. Continue to check FMS dashboard to see if there are any false alarms. Hopefully the config will reduce the time spent by adminserver agent to collect data, so no more false alarms would be present.
