How to Upgrade Foglight Cartridge for Oracle (4226753)

• How to install and upgrade the latest Foglight Cartridge for Oracle version.

• Showing the Foglight Oracle Cartridge 5.9.2.1 or a higher version upgrade process for environments containing the default configured Foglight Oracle agents.    

Prerequisites

• Login to support.quest.com and download the latest Foglight Cartridge for Oracle release
• Along with the recommended docs, extract and copy the cartridge file locally
• A user with sys privileges to run grant script
• Best practice is to review Release notes and sizing requirements prior to installing/upgrading

Alternative Steps:

1. Once you have extracted the cartridge file locally to your desktop, access and login to the Foglight console.

2. To install the cartridge proceed under Dashboards | administration | Cartridges | Cartridge inventory

   The current running versions of the pertaining oracle components are listed and should change reflecting the new version after the install.

3. Click on install cartridge and browse to the directory containing  the latest extracted cartridge file and select it.  Click open and install cartridge.  

4. The installation process will initiate.  Below left corner shows the upload status.  The procedure may take a few minutes to complete.  When the operation has finished a successful completion message will popup.  

   The cartridge has successfully updated superseding the previous version; components are now running under the latest version.  acknowledged by a green check mark next to its corresponding components.

5. Next step is to upgrade the Foglight agent manager Domain and Oracle agents.  To progress the upgrade click on databases and the process will either continue directly to the upgrade wizard or revert to the databases dashboards where a Clickable upgrade button should display to enter the upgrade wizard. Click the upgrade button to enter the upgrade wizard if this occurs.    

6. Select Foglight for Oracle cartridge domain to upgrade.  What’s new in this version is specified at this point in the upgrade wizard.  Please take some time to review those items prior to progressing,

7. The following screen shows all the Foglight agent managers associated with Foglight Oracle agents needed for upgrade.  Select all and Click on upgrade the Selected Agent managers to begin the process.  The operation shall begin to upgrade the foglight agent managers and discovered Oracle agents.  When the process is complete, the Foglight agent manager status will display a green indicator and the Foglight Oracle version should change reflecting the upgrade operation success. Click next.

8. In the validate connectivity panel.   It’s always good practice to validate connectivity checking for any new elevated permission required in this version.  Select the agents and click validate connectivity.

9. If an insufficient privileges status displays, there are two options to execute the grant privileges script that requires a sysadm user to run.  One option is to click on view script located in parentheses bottom left.  Copy the script and run it in the database with a sysadm user against the foglight database user, then validate connection again.  Or click on insufficient privileges, and a box pops.  Supply a sysadm user to execute grant scripts and click grant.  The grant process starts updating the database user with the necessary credentials.

10.  When the status validates successfully, the upgrade is just about complete. click next confirms the upgrade completion to the indicated version.  The oracle cartridge has been successfully updated.  Click finish returns to the databases dashboards.
