Unable to collect VMware data: "Failed to acquire the READ lock for agent" -
Description
A newly created VMwarePerformance agent is unable to collect VMware data. The following messages can be found wtihin the Foglight Agent Manager (FglAM) and Agent log files:
YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS.SSS VERBOSE [IncomingMessage[3]-32] com.quest.glue.core.comms.handlers.AbstractAgentLockMessageHandler - Could not acquire an Agent Lock from VMwarePerformance_on_VC01.dsg.com needed before we can process the com.quest.glue.messages.schema.v1_3.SetAgentState_v1_3 message [msgId: 9367b764-1fdb-4f7b-ba6b-09f573ca6644]. Will re-attempt lock acquisition in 5,000ms....Caused by: java.util.concurrent.TimeoutException: Failed to acquire the READ lock for agent VMwarePerformance/5.6.10/VMwarePerformance/VMwarePerformance_on_VC01.dsg.com because it is being held by another thread(s). One of more of those threads could be hung or deadlocked. -
Resolution
WORKAROUND 1:
- Deactivate the affected agent.
- Activate the affected agent.
- Restart the FglAM.
WORKAROUND 2:- Restart the server, where the affected agent is residing.
- Restart FglAM.
WORKAROUND 3:
- Disable the VMware agent
- Create a new VMware agent with exact same information as the original VMware agent (all connections details have to be identical, otherwise VMware objects will be duplicated)
- Activate the new VMware agent
