How to enable database writing (4311565)

Note: Database writing methods are not supported by Microsoft, and if used, will impact your Microsoft warranty.

1. Close all instances of the Content Matrix Console.
2. Navigate to the C:\ProgramData\Metalogix folder.
3. Using a text editor, edit the EnvironmentSettings.xml file.
4. Find the "AllowDBWriting" key and change its value from "False" to "True". Note: This is case sensitive.
   
   
   
5. Save the file and restart the Content Matrix Console.

Once enabled, you should now have the following options, which require direct database writing:

• Preserve IDs on items/folders in document libraries.
• Preserve workflow instance data.
• Allow copying of deleted Active Directory users. Note: Database writing is not supported for SharePoint 2013 and later.

The ability to preserve the metadata for deleted AD users and all other functionalities requiring direct database writing require that the connection to the target SharePoint environment is either via the Local Object Model (OM) or the Remote Connection (Metalogix Extensions Web Service). Additionally, it requires that the migrating account be a db_owner to the target content database.
