This article provides recommended configuration settings to optimize migrations from Enterprise Vault (EV) to PST using Archive Shuttle. While each environment may require specific tuning, these general guidelines can help improve stability, performance, and manageability.

PST File Management

• Split PST files into smaller chunks (e.g., 2 GB) using rollover settings.  
  This enhances migration stability and simplifies post-migration handling.
  
  
• Set folder splitting threshold (`Rollover Item Count Threshold`) to 100,000 items.  
  Inserting data into folders with large item counts can significantly slow down performance.
  
  
• If verification of closed PST files is required, we recommended to perform it separately from the ingestion process.  
  Running ingestion, verification, and PST renaming simultaneously may cause the Native Import service to hang.

Recommended Workload Distribution for Native Import Services

The goal should be to distribute the workload for the Native Import service across distinct stages to avoid service instability.
Avoid running ingestion, PST file verification, and PST renaming at the same time, as this can lead to the Native Import service hanging.

Recommendation for Stage 1: Execute PST Ingestion Only

• Run ingestion without PST file verification or renaming.
• Ensure the setting "Finalize finished PSTs in Stage 1" is disabled.

Recommendation for Stage 2: Execute PST Renaming and Verification

• Execute only when ingestion is not running.
• Manually enable Stage 1 finished mappings for Stage 2 once ingestion is idle.

Parallelism Settings

• Item Parallelism: Keep low (ideally 1–2) to reduce contention.
• File/Mailbox Parallelism: Can be higher (e.g., 10–12) to improve throughput.
