A Referral Was Returned From The Server, there is no such object on the server
An error is encountered when opening the Active Administrator Server Management (ASM) console:
“A referral was returned from the server”
or
“There is no such object on the server”
When the console opens, there are no installed agents, even if agents are running from a previous version of the application. Attempting to install agents will produce the same error.
This error occurs when the domain name of a computer appears in the Netbios format in the tblComputer table in the SQL database.
The error is commonly caused by upgrading previous versions of the application, or by incorrect DNS entries, duplicate server names in Active Directory, or mild corruption in the SQL database.
The error can occur in “fresh” (new) installs of Active Administrator.
Open a session to each Domain Controller where and Active Administrator agent is installed. This can involve the Services snap-in instead a remote session if you prefer.
Stop the “Active Administrator Agent” service on each domain controller.(Make certain that the recovery option is not set to ‘Restart’)
Close the Active Administrator Server Management console
Use the Microsoft SQL Management Studio to view dbo.tblComputer.
Manually edit the Domain Name in the dbo.tblComputer column to reflect the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of the domain.
The DomainName field should contain the FQDN of the domain. The ComputerName field should contain the FQDN name of the server.
The DomainName entry "sandi1" in the table above should actually be "sandi1.local" instead.
You can find the correct and fully qualified name by pinging the NetBIOS name of the computer from the Active Administrator server.
Open the Active Administrator Server Management console and verify that all Domain Controllers show up with the agent installed successfully at the correct/current version number. If they don’t, then upgrade the agents and fix the tbl.computer again if necessary.
