LiteSpeed SSIS plans must be manually upgraded after upgrading SQL Server 2005 to 2008 (4330510)

Maintenance plans may fail after upgrading the version of SQL Server from 2005 to 2008 or 2012.

On SQL Server 2005, LiteSpeed SSIS plans use the Quest.MaintenancePlan.Tasks.9.dll library. They must be manually upgraded to use the Quest.MaintenancePlan.Tasks.10.dll library. Otherwise, plan jobs will fail after you upgrade to SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2102.

If you have at least one LiteSpeed task in a SSIS plan, then you need to upgrade the plan after upgrading SQL Server 2005 to 2008.

To upgrade plans in LiteSpeed 6.1 or later, do one of the following:

• Right-click an instance in the Maintenance Plan pane and select Tasks | Upgrade LiteSpeed Maintenance plans.
• Right-click a maintenance plan in the Maintenance Plan pane and select Convert to LiteSpeed.

To upgrade plans in LiteSpeed 5.2 and 6.0, do the following:

1. Contact Quest Support to obtain the Quest.MaintenancePlan.Upgrade.exe utility.
2. Save the Quest.MaintenancePlan.Upgrade.exe utility to the default LiteSpeed installation directory on the machine where you have both the LiteSpeed UI Console and SQL Server 2008 Integration Services installed. (Usually, C:\Program Files\Quest Software\LiteSpeed\SQL Server). Double-click the Quest.MaintenancePlan.Upgrade.exe utility.
3. Enter server connection details, click Connect.
4. Select maintenance plans you want to upgrade and click Upgrade.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for all servers where you have LiteSpeed SSIS plans.

NOTE: All the instructions are valid when upgrading to SQL Server 2012

Examples of the error messages:

• Failed to load task.
• The task has failed to load.
• There were errors during task validation.
• The package cannot execute because it contains tasks that failed to load.
• The package execution returned DTSER_FAILURE (1).
• The package execution failed.
