Cloud Discoveries — Permissions and Requirements

Microsoft Azure provides services in the cloud. Enterprise Reporter can connect to these services and generate reports. This document outlines the permissions and requirements for cloud discoveries by Enterprise Reporter. You can run cloud discoveries and collect attributes using the credentials in the table below.

The following table outlines the permissions and requirements for Enterprise Reporter cloud discoveries.

Microsoft Entra ID

An account with Global Reader, Report Reader and Hybrid Identity Administrator Role is required to collect all discovery options.

NOTE:  
•
Accounts with Microsoft Entra ID Premium P2 license can collect all data.

Azure Resource

An account with Reader (NOT Global Reader) permissions on the subscriptions being discovered is required to collect all options in a discovery.

Exchange Online

The Exchange Online uses certificate authentication. To register certificate with the tenant application, use the Tenant Application Manager. See Managing Tenant Applications in the Configuration Manager User Guide.

Microsoft Teams

The user credentials used to collect Microsoft Teams information must have either the Teams Administrator or Global Administrator permissions. The user must also be a member of each Microsoft Teams group to prevent access denied errors during discovery. 

If additional credentials are being specified to minimize throttling limitations, these credentials must have the same permissions as stated above.

For the collection of Microsoft Teams Policies and Settings, basic authentication is no longer supported, certificate authentication is now required. To register certificate, see Managing Tenant Applications in the Configuration Manager User Guide.

OneDrive

An account with a Microsoft 365 license and access (site collection admin) to folders being discovered is required to collect all options in a discovery.

SharePoint Online

An account with SharePoint Administrator or Global Admin role is required.

The user must also have access to site collections (site collection administrator) being discovered to collect all options in a discovery.
