User gets error message:
System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException
Length cannot be less than zero.
Parameter name: length
Usually occurs when first launching Toad for SQL Server 3.0 when there was a previous installation of Toad for SQL Server on this machine before.
When launching Toad for SQL Server 3.0 after an upgrade or new installation, the use is prompted to migrate settings from an older version of Toad. Clicking yes, a setting or file migrated from the old version causes a corruption in the new version. A reinstall does not usually resolve this issue as the user files are not removed during the uninstall.
1. Make sure Toad for SQL Server is shut down.
2. Browse the following directory: C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Quest Software. Where "YOUR_USERNAME" is your Windows login.
3. Rename the folder "Toad for SQL Server 3.0" to something like "Toad for SQL Server 3.0 BACKUP."
4. Launch your Toad and you should be prompted if you want to migrate settings over from 2.0.
5. Choose cancel and see if you can continue and use Toad 3.0.
