What is Quest Auto Update?

Quest Auto Update is a feature in the following products: Toad for Oracle (Windows 64 bit) Subscription and non-Subscription, Toad Data Studio Subscription and non-Subscription, Toad Data Point Subscription, Toad for SQL Server Subscription and Toad for DB2 Subscription. It’s a Windows Service that gets installed with Toad to periodically check for and deliver product notification updates to our users.

After installation and launching of the product, Quest Auto Update is set to run automatically under the Local Service account. Product updates are downloaded automatically, and a Windows notification window will appear when updates are available. User can choose to install the product update by using the Install option.

Auto-update is a Windows Service that is installed at the time the Toad is installed.

How not to install Auto Update or disable it?

Toad for Oracle:

Before installing Toad - Auto Update can be disabled at the time of installation of Toad. Review the steps of ⁠Toad for Oracle Edition Installer options section of the Installation Guide.

After installing Toad - Auto Update can be disabled with the following steps:

Window Services

1. 1. From Windows Search field enter Services.msc
   2. Locate Quest Update Service in the list of Windows Services
   3. Right click on the service name and select Stop option
   4. Right click on the service name and under Startup type select Manual option

Update Notifications

1. 1. Open Task manager and search for QuestUpdate.NotificationUI.exe. If found, right click on the process name and select End option.
   2. From Windows Search field enter Windows Startups Apps and search for QuestUpdate.NotificationUI.exe. If found, toggle it off.
