To enable quiescing for all virtual machines managed by an ESX or a vCenter Server, select the server, and in the Actions list, click Set Backup Preferences. |

In the Backup Preferences dialog box, configure the following option: |

Quiesce VM for snapshot: This check box is selected by default. To quiesce a virtual machine before creating a snapshot, leave this check box selected. The setting for an individual virtual machine level takes precedence over the server-level setting. |

Click OK to close the dialog box. |
