Obtaining permanent license keys

To obtain permanent license keys for NetVault Backup:

Submit the request using the on-line product licensing form at: https://support.quest.com/

Installing product license keys

You can install the license keys by using the configuration wizard. You can also install the license keys from the Manage Clients or Change Settings page.

NOTE: The permanent license keys for NetVault Backup are tied to the Machine ID of the NetVault Backup machine. While installing the license keys, verify that you select the correct server or client machine for which the license was obtained.

Installing license keys using the configuration wizard
To install the license keys using the configuration wizard:

In the Navigation pane, click Guided Configuration, and then on the NetVault Configuration Wizard page, click Install Licenses.

In the NetVault Backup Clients table, select the client on which you want to install the license key, and click Next.

In the Enter the license key string box, type or copy and paste the license key. Click Apply.
After the key is applied successfully, a message is displayed
Installing license keys from the Manage Clients page
To install the license keys from the Manage Clients page:

In the Navigation pane, click Manage Clients. In the NetVault Backup Clients table, select the client on which you want to install the license key, and click Manage.

On the View Clients page, click Install License.

In the Install License dialog box, type or copy and paste the license key, and click Apply.
After the key is installed successfully, a message is displayed on the page. Click the Close button to close the dialog box.
Installing license keys from the Change Settings page
To install the license keys from the Change Settings page:

In the Navigation pane, click Change Settings, and on the Configuration page, click Server Settings.

On the NetVault Server Settings page, click Install License.

In the Install License dialog box, type or copy and paste the license key, and click Apply.
After the key is installed successfully, a message is displayed on the page. Click the Close button to close the dialog box.

 

Removing NetVault Backup

Removing NetVault Backup Server or Client

When you install the NetVault Backup Server or Client software on a machine, the installation process creates an uninstaller executable file named “uninstall” under the NetVault Backup installation directory. You can use this executable to remove NetVault Backup. The installation process also creates a data file named “uninstall.dat,” which contains information about the installation. To properly uninstall the software, both the uninstaller executable and the uninstall.dat files must exist on the machine.

NOTE: When you remove NetVault Backup, the backup indexes are deleted from the NetVault Database. However, the actual backed up data remains intact on the media.
To remove NetVault Backup Server or Client:

Log on to the system with administrator or root-level access, and navigate to NetVault Backup installation directory.

Use any of the following methods to run the uninstaller.
 
Mode
Description

GUI mode

Double-click the file named “uninstall.”

The filename extension is “.exe” on Windows and “.app” on Mac OS X.

Text mode

Depending on the operating system, type the following command:

Linux and UNIX: ./uninstall --mode text
•
Mac OS X: /path/to/nvbu_install_dir/uninstall.app/Contents/MacOS/installbuilder.sh --mode text
NOTE:

When uninstalling NetVault Backup on Linux IA (Itanium), the uninstaller shows “unaligned access” warning messages. However, the uninstallation completes successfully.
Example warning messages:
unaligned access to 0x6000000005642f7c, ip=0x2000000004dbe520
To suppress these warning messages, start the uninstaller by running the following command:
prctl --unaligned=silent ./uninstall --mode text

You can omit the --mode text option when running the uninstaller on a local Mac OS X machine. When running the uninstaller on Mac OS X from a remote terminal (SSH or telnet), it may be necessary to use the --mode text option. Otherwise, the installer may run in full graphic mode without showing any output in the console.

Unattended mode

Depending on the operating system, type the following command:

Linux and UNIX: ./uninstall --mode unattended
•
Mac OS X: /path/to/nvbu_install_dir/uninstall.app/Contents/MacOS/installbuilder.sh --mode unattended

Windows: uninstall --mode unattended
NOTE: When uninstalling NetVault Backup on Linux IA (Itanium), the uninstaller shows “unaligned access” warning messages. However, the uninstallation completes successfully.

Example warning messages:

NOTE: On Windows, you can also use Programs and Features to uninstall NetVault Backup:

Open Programs and Features (Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features).

In the list of installed programs, select NetVault Backup, and then click Uninstall.

In the confirmation dialog, click Yes to remove the program.
The uninstaller generates a log file named netvault_{GUID}_uninstall.log in the system temporary directory. If the uninstallation fails, the uninstaller may not generate the regular log file. Instead, it may leave an intermediate log file is named bitrock_installer.log or bitrock_installer_nnn.log in the system temporary directory.
