Cause
The parameter "Number of Sessions" determines the number of tablespaces that are backed up in parallel. Each session is assigned one tablespace at a time until all tablespaces are backed up. The maximum number of sessions is two.
In the case when two sessions are configured, each session is assigned to a separate device. If one of the device is busy during backup, the job might fail with the following error: Failed to send data to backup stream.

Resolution
Reduce the number of session back to default value of 1 where contention for tape drives may be a consideration.
