Toad Data Point 6.2 - User Guide

Publish Automation Scripts to Intelligence Central

You can share Automation scripts with other Toad Data Point users by publishing the scripts to a Toad Intelligence Central (TIC) server. Running your scheduled Automation scripts on the Intelligence Central server is also a great way to offload work from your local computer.

For an in-depth look at how script publishing works in Toad, see About Publishing Automation Scripts.

To see if you need to prepare your script for publishing, see Prepare to Publish Automation Scripts.

Note: This feature is available in the Toad Data Point Professional edition only and requires access to a Toad Intelligence Central server.

Publish Automation Scripts

To publish a script to Toad Intelligence Central

  1. With the script open in the Automation window, click Publish in the Wizard bar.
  2. If the script does not have the following script Settings specified, Toad prompts you:
    Script Setting Description
Use relative path to find files must be deselected

In the TIC environment, Toad cannot successfully run a script that uses relative file paths.

Publishing is designed to be used with scripts that include only network-stored input and output files (with the exception of files that Toad embeds). If necessary, please modify your script to use input and output files that are stored in a network location before publishing

Embed files into Automation script must be selected Toad embeds into the script any Toad input files, linked SQL files, and other Automation scripts. See How Toad Manages Input and Output Files for a complete list of files.
  3. At the prompt, click Yes to instruct Toad to modify the script (specify the settings).
    • Toad modifies a temporary version of the script (scriptname@datetimestamp) and loads it into the Automation window while the Publishing dialog displays. Your original script remains untouched.

If you click No, you can modify the script settings yourself (click the Settings icon in the script design pane) and then publish.

  4. After you click Yes (or if the script did not require modifications), the Publish to Intelligence Central dialog opens. Select a destination server and a folder. Then enter a name to display in the Object Explorer.

Note: The name must be unique among Automation scripts. No two scripts in the same Intelligence Central instance can have the same name (regardless of folder).

  5. Click the Sharing link to modify sharing (visibility) options for your published script. See Publish to Intelligence Central for detailed information about publishing options.
  6. If your script includes a variable, click Default values to specify a default value for the variable. See Variables in Views/Scripts and Publishing to Intelligence Central for more information.
  7. Click the Scheduling link to schedule script execution from this dialog.
  8. Click the Run Details link to specify a user account under which to run the script on Intelligence Central.
    • Specify user to execute automation script—Select to specify a Windows user account. Then enter account credentials. You can change the account later using the Script Manger (see Manage Automation Scripts in Intelligence Central).

Tip: Click to view the password, allowing you to confirm it was entered correctly.

    • Use default user to execute automation script—Select to use the default user account, which is the account under which the Toad Intelligence Central App Server is currently running.

To limit the script run time, enter a maximum run time in Script execution limit.

  9. To include a test run as part of the publishing process, select the Test run the script after it is published option.
  10. After specifying options, click Publish in the Publish to Intelligence Central dialog to publish your script.

  11. If you selected to test run the script, Toad immediately publishes the script, tests the script's database and FTP connections on the TIC server, and then test runs the script (on the TIC server).

It is recommended that you test run your script when publishing to uncover any issues such as missing input files or connections that are not properly set up on the TIC server.

  12. When the test run is finished, a success (or error) message displays. Click Yes in the message window to view the execution log. This log details script execution on the TIC server. Check the log for any errors, such as missing input files or connection issues. See Troubleshoot Scripts on Intelligence Central for more information.

To view the execution log at a later time, right-click a published script in the Object Explorer and select View Details. Then select the Logs tab.

  13. If you did not select to test run the script, Toad publishes the script to the TIC server without testing the connections or executing the script.
  14. You can run, view, and manage your script once it is published to an Intelligence Central server. See Manage Automation Scripts in Intelligence Central for more information about running and managing scripts in TIC.

Tips:

  • To rename an Automation script file, do so through Toad (File | Save File As), not through Windows Explorer. Renaming a script file using Toad ensures that log files are created correctly and properly synced with their scripts.

  • To test a published script's connections, select the script in the Object Explorer or Script Manager and click .
  • To view the connection information for a published script, click to open the Script Manager. Select the script and then select the Connections tab.
  • In the Database Explorer (Viewer) or Script Manager, hover over the Result column in the Logs tab to display each script execution's Exit Code.
  • To refresh information in the Info, Logs, and Connections tabs in the Database Explorer (Viewer) or Script Manager, select View | Refresh.
  • To change the Toad Intelligence Central App Server (default user) account, see Default Account for Script Execution.
