Need to configure the browser interface to control end user access to dashboards
Steps:
1. First, ensure the Foglight Administrators and Foglight Security Administrators user account belongs to the Cartridge Development group.
Tip
Roles associated with the Cartridge Development group allow access to basic dashboard properties using a link in the action panel.
2. Create a role that grants access to the selected dashboard.
a. On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click Administration > Users & Security.
b. On the Users and Security Management dashboard that appears in the display area, click Manage Users, Groups, Roles.
The User Management view appears in the display area with the Users tab open.
c. Open the Roles tab.
d. On the Roles tab, click New Role. The New Role dialog box appears.
e. In the Name box, type the role name. For example, Host Access. Click Next, then click Finish.
Tip
There is no need to select groups in this step. In this example we grant roles directly to the selected user, instead of assigning the role to a group and adding the user to the group.
f. To create multiple groups, click Add more names, and type them into the list that appears, followed by clicking Add.
g. Click Next.
After a few moments, the New Role dialog box closes. The Roles tab refreshes, showing the newly created role in the list.
3. Create a new user account and grant the newly created role to this user.
a. On the User Management view, open the Users tab.
b. On the Users tab, click New User. The New User dialog box appears.
c.In the Name box, type the user name. For example, Host User. Click Next, then click Next again.
Tip
In this example we grant roles directly to the selected user, instead of assigning the role to a group and adding the user to the group. That is why there is no need to select groups in this step.
d. Specify the user’s password. For the purpose of this exercise, there is no need to change the user’s password at the next logon. Clear the Change Password at the next logon check box and click Next.
e. Optional — Select the home page for the users. Selecting the Hosts page for the purpose of this example results in that dashboard being displayed in the display area immediately after logging in, instead of requiring the user to navigate to it though the navigation panel.
Tip
If a user does not have a home page defined, a warning page appears after logging in.
To do define the home page, expand the Hosts node and select Hosts from the rows that appear, then click Finish. After a few moments, the New User dialog box closes. The Users tab refreshes, showing the newly created user entry in the list.
4. Grant the Host Access role to the Host User.
a. On the Users tab, in the row containing the Host User entry, in the Roles column, click Assign roles.
b. In the dwell that appears, select Console User and Host Access, and click Save.
Tip
The Console User role grants access to the browser interface. The role in addition to the Host Access role to access the Hosts page. The dwell closes and the Users tab refreshes, indicating that the Host Access and Console Roles roles are granted to the Host User.
5. Set the Host Access role as the Relevant Role of the dashboards to grant access. For the purpose of this example, we grant access to the Hosts and Alarms dashboards to the Host User account. follow the same process to grant access to other dashboards, as required. For each of the dashboards to grant access, complete the following steps.
a. Navigate to the desired dashboard.
Tip
To navigate to the Hosts dashboard, under Homes, click Hosts.
To navigate to the Alarms dashboard, under Homes, click Alarms.
b. On the action panel, on the General tab, under Actions, click Properties, and choose Edit basic properties from the menu that appears. The Edit View Properties dialog box appears.
c. In the Edit View Properties dialog box, click the list icon to the right of Relevant Role(s) and select Host Access in the dwell that appears, then click Apply.
d. Click OK to close the Edit View Properties dialog box.
6. Configure role access for the three embedded views that appear on the Hosts and Alarms dashboards:
•Manage Groups (on the Hosts dashboard)
•Groups Toolbar (on the Hosts dashboard)
•Alarm List with Filter - Alarm List (on the Alarms dashboard)
To grant access to dashboards other than Hosts and Alarms, follow the same process to enable access to their embedded views.
To enable the display of these views on the Hosts page, grant the Host Access role to each of the embedded views.
a. On the navigation panel, choose Configuration > Definitions.
b. In the Module List pane, select All Definitions.
c. In the Module Contents pane, search for each individual view using its name, then click the view name.
d. In the Definitions area, click Edit.
e. In the Definitions area, on the General tab, edit the Allowed Role(s) and Relevant Role(s) to include the Host Access role.
Tip
When Allowed Roles are set and do not match the Relevant Roles, access to this dashboard is disabled to those users that have those Relevant Roles.
7. Log out and then log back in as the Host User to test this configuration.
8. Observe the navigation panel and the display area. Granted the Host User access to only the Hosts and Alarms dashboards, only these nodes appear available for selection from the navigation panel in step 3.
The Hosts dashboard appears in the display area. Upon logging in this the dashboard as the home page of the Host User.
