Installing and Un-installing the Agent Using Command Line Interface (4035185)

AppAssure agent installation packages are built to utilize the graphical user interface (GUI) within most Windows environments; however, this GUI is not always available and the command line must be utilized to install or uninstall the AppAssure agent. This can often occur during Windows Core installations.

To resolve the aforementioned issue, complete the following steps. Please note that a reboot will be required after each step for the changes to take affect.

Installing the AppAssure Agent

1. Download the latest version of the Agent (i.e. 5.3.x.xxxxx) to a machine or portable device that you can make available to the machine you are trying to protect.
2. Turn off your UAC
• C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /k %windir%\System32\reg.exe ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
3. Navigate to the location you made available and run the installation
• NOTE: This will take a few minutes to complete and will force a reboot upon completion.
• cd C:\Users\Local user\Downloads Agent-X64-5.3.x.xxxxx.exe /silent
4. After the server reboots, you can re-enable the UAC if desired.
• NOTE: This will require a reboot.
• C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /k %windir%\System32\reg.exe ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

Un-installing the AppAssure Agent:

You will need to apply the following to uninstall the agent:

1. Find out what build the agent is on.
• wmic product get name,version
• You are looking for AppRecovery Agent, 5.3.x.xxxx
2. Download the corresponding agent package from the Technical Documentation page (click here). Either copy it to the server or share it to the affected server.
3. Disable your UAC
• C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /k %windir%\System32\reg.exe ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
• NOTE: This will need a reboot
• NOTE: If you skip this step, your uninstall will fail.
4. Navigate to the folder where installer package is located.
•  “Agent-x64-5.3.x.xxx.exe” /fulluninstall /silent
• NOTE: This will take a few minute to complete, and will force a reboot once completed
5. After rebooting, you can re-enable UAC (if Desired)
• NOTE: This will require another reboot
• C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /k %windir%\System32\reg.exe ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v EnableLUA /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

You should be able to run a net start command to view your services and verify that the agent has been uninstalled
