OS File system space usage remains constant but VM agent reports abnormal values – ex, the logical drive storage values for a VM fluctuate widely between 0% and 100%.
More than one VM hosts are using the same hostname; therefore, these VMs point to a single host record and all the data for the different logical drives on these VMs are merged into a single location in vFoglight.
Data Viewer Dashboard helps to verify that a VM isn’t sharing a host record with the other VMs:
VMs that are sharing a host record will have multiple VMs listed under the [Detail] window.
Make sure each VMs are configured with unique host names. Contact system administrator for the name resolution setting via DNS or OS configuration file such as /etc/hosts, /etc/sysconfig/network, /etc/resolv.conf and/or /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ethX file (where X is number) as needed .
Once the required changes are done restart either network service or OS to have the changes taken into effect. Wait for a while till VM agent gathers the updated data. Then go back to FMS Data Viewer Dashboard to verify multiple VMs aren’t listed in the Host Detail.
Note that FMS can’t pull out historical data which previously were spooled in a single location and apply it to newly created unique host record. Upon the confirmation of no multiple host entries per a VM, the historical data can be deleted from Data Management Dashboard if desired:
Locate the host that multiple VM shared the same hostname previously and click [Delete] button to remove the object.
