How to reconstruct stubbed or archived messages from Archive Manager back to Exchange or Office 365
Before Reconstructing Archived or Stubbed Messages, Ensure You Meet the Following Prerequisites:
Login Credentials: Log in as the ArchiveManager ESM service account to run the Exchange Utility application on the ArchiveManager Server.
Admin Role: Ensure that the ArchiveManager ESM service account has been assigned the Admin role within the ArchiveManager Website.
Permissions: Verify that the ArchiveManager ESM account possesses sufficient permissions to access mailboxes within the environment during the email reconstruction process in Exchange.
Authentication Setting: Set the authentication method to Forms before starting the reconstruction process. You can switch back to Windows authentication after completing the reconstruction.
Message Policies: Prior to reconstructing stubbed messages, disable Message Policies within Archive Manager for every mailbox to be rehydrated or directly from the Mail Server within the Archive Manager Website if you are planning to rehydrate every single mailbox. Neglecting to disable the current message policies may result in Archive Manager stubbing the messages again, depending on your policy settings when the Archive Manager ESM service scans the mailbox.
To Reconstruct Stubbed Messages, Follow These Steps:
Log In: Log in to the Archive Manager server using the ArchiveMgr_ESM service account.
Open Exchange Utility: Launch the ExchangeUtility.exe located at C:\Program Files(x86)\Quest\ArchiveManager.
Select Mail Server: Go to File -> Get Mailboxes -> Mailserver. Click on "Add>>" and choose the mail server's name. Click "Finished" to confirm the action.
Mailbox Selection: The Exchange Utility will display a list of mailboxes associated with the selected mail server. Click on "Edit" -> "Unselect All," then choose the mailboxes you need.
Initiate Reconstruction: Click on "File" -> "Reconstruct Stubbed Messages." A web login window will prompt you to enter the following information:
Server URL: The URL to Archive Manager (e.g., http://archivemanager or https://archivemanager.mydomain.com).
User: ArchiveMgr_ESM
Password: The password for the Archive Manager ESM service account.
Domain: Your organization's domain.
Monitoring Progress: A progress screen will display the status of the message reconstruction. Once the reconstruction is completed, the mailbox will be marked as unchecked by the reconstruction process.
Verification: Open Outlook and confirm that all messages have been successfully reconstructed.
