Privileged Mode

An operational state of hardware or software that has the highest priority. This mode is primarily used by operating system services such as I/O and paging. Also known as Supervisor Mode and Kernel Mode. See User Mode .

Process

An instance of an application executing in Windows.

Random I/O

I/O in which a specific disk block is directly accessed. This is typically the I/O that results from index lookups.

Recompile

The process of compiling a stored procedure part way through that procedure's execution.
