Testing regular expressions

You can validate a regular expression using the Extraction Rule tool. You can launch the Extraction Rule tool from the Edit Script dialog box. The Test Results state whether a match was found in the data provide.

NOTE: These instructions assume that you are currently in the Edit Script dialog box. If not, see Adding, copying, and editing scripts.
To create and test a regular expression:

In the Edit Script dialog box, click Regular Expression Tester.
The Extraction Rule dialog box appears.

In the Rule box, type the pattern you want to match.

In the Text to Search box, type some sample data.

Click Run Test.
The Test Results box states whether the pattern matched any of the sample data.

To return to your script, click Cancel.

Syntax for test data

Each test data element consists of up to four parts. The general form of the test data is:
dataType.dataElement[#argumentValue ... ]=dataValue
where
•
dataType is one of: hit, session, sessionHA, sequence or sequenceHA
•
dataElement is the specific piece of data you are specifying for that dataType
•
argumentValue is optional and consists of the arguments passed to the method used to access the dataElement
•
dataValue is the value you want to assign the dataElement
For example, to specify a hit custom field with the name cartValue and a value of 100.00, type hit.customField#cartValue=100.00. To specify a client IP of 10.2.2.1, type hit.clientIP=10.2.2.1.

Adding simple hit analyzers using the Setup Wizard

This wizard guides you through creating a hit analyzer that matches hits based on a request path. If you want to define more complex hit analyzers, see Adding analyzers.
To create a simple hit analyzer using a Setup Wizard:

On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click APM > Configure > Traffic Analysis.

Expand Hit Analyzers.

Click Setup Wizard.
The Hit Analyzer - Setup Wizard appears. Click Next or Previous to navigate between screens.

On the Set Properties screen, specify the following options:
•
Name: Specify a name.
•
Description: Summarize the reason you created the hit analyzer, including the actions it performs.
•
Enabled: Select to enable this analyzer as soon as you finish defining it. Disabled analyzers are not applied to monitored web traffic.

On the Define Match Conditions screen, specify the following options:
•
Request Path Operator: Select an operator that performs the type of match you want to make. For a description of the available operators, see Operators.
•
Request Path Value: Click and select a request path from the list of request paths discovered in the monitored web traffic.

On the Define Interactions screen, specify the following options:
•
Generate Standard Metrics: Select this option to generate a set of standard metrics for each matching hit. For more information, see Understanding standard metrics.
•
Pivots: If you want to capture metrics by category, select the categories you are interested in tracking. For more information, see Understanding pivot categories and Understanding pivots for analyzer metrics.

NOTE: After you finish defining the analyzer, ensure the pivots you selected are enabled in the Traffic Analysis > Pivots dashboard. For more information, see Enabling pivot categories and defining their membership.

Click Finish.
The Setup Wizard closes. The new hit analyzer appears in the Hit Analyzers table.

To review or edit the new hit analyzer, click its Edit icon.
The Edit Hit Analyzer dashboard appears.

You can find the options that you defined using the wizard in the following areas:
•
The properties are at the top of the dashboard. To edit them, click Properties.
•
To see the match condition, expand Match Conditions.
•
To see the selected metrics and pivots, expand Metrics.

TIP: In the Edit Hit Analyzer dashboard, you can edit any of the options for the hit analyzer, not just the ones defined using the wizard.

To save changes, click Save. To exit without changing the analyzer, click Cancel.

Adding simple sequence analyzers using the Setup Wizard

You can use a Setup Wizard to create simple sequence analyzers. If you want to define more complex sequence analyzers, see Adding analyzers.
To create a simple sequence analyzer using a Setup Wizard:

In the Traffic Analysis dashboard, expand Sequence Analyzers.

The Sequence Analyzer - Setup Wizard appears.

Provide the information requested on each screen. Click Next or Previous to navigate between screens.
