Associating private keys with IP addresses

Sniffers require access to private keys to be able to decrypt HTTPS traffic. A monitored IP address can have one or more keys associated with it. Monitoring secure (HTTPS) web traffic

TIP: If the private key you need is not available in the Add Private Key dialog box, you need to add the key on the Private Keys dashboard. For more information, see Managing private keys. If a port is not available, see Managing monitored ports.
To associate private keys with an IP address:

On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click APM > Configure > Traffic Capture > Monitored IP Addresses.

In the row containing the IP address, click Private Keys .
The Monitored IP Addresses > Private Keys view appears. The table contains a list of private keys (if any) associated with the monitored IP address.

Click Add.
The Add Private Key dialog box appears.

From the Private Key list, select a key.
The list contains private keys that were previously defined on the Private Keys dashboard.

Select the ports that carry web traffic encrypted using this private key.
The list contains monitored ports configured for HTTPS that were previously defined on the Monitored Ports dashboard.

Optional—if the private key is valid for a limited time, you can include the time frame so that you know when to request an updated key. Select Enforce Key Usage Time Frame, and specify the start date/time and the end date/time.

Click Save.
The private key appears in the table and is now associated with the IP address.

Repeat to add other private keys required by the device located at this IP address.

Selecting subnets from a discovery list

You can use the Discovery tool to detect possible subnets that may be in use on your network. You can then select the subnets that you want to monitor. After adding monitored subnets from the discovery dialog box, you may need to edit the mask portion of the subnet to match your actual subnets.
To discover and add monitored subnets:

On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click APM > Configure > Traffic Capture > Monitored Subnets.

Click Discover.
The Subnet Discovery dialog box appears, and begins displaying subnets in use in the monitored environment.
Optional—use the Discovery tool’s Search box to focus results.

When you see the subnets that you want to add, click Stop.
You can order the results by clicking any column heading.

Select the check boxes beside one or more subnets.

Click Add.
The selected subnets appear in the table.

If the mask portion of any of the subnets does not match your actual subnets, you need to edit the inaccurate monitored subnets. See Adding and editing monitored subnets.

Adding and editing monitored subnets

To add or edit a monitored subnet:

On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click APM > Configure > Traffic Capture > Monitored Subnet.

Do one of the following:

To monitor a new subnet, click Add.
•
To edit an existing monitored subnet, click its Edit icon.

In the dialog box, complete the options. For help with options, see Defining monitored subnets.

Click Save.

Adding identifiers

You add client identifiers, server identifiers, and host identifiers in the same way.
To add an identifier:

On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click APM > Configure > Traffic Capture > Identifiers.
The Identifiers dashboard appears, containing three panes: Client Identifiers, Server Identifiers, and Host Identifiers.

In the Identifier pane for the type of identifier you want to create, click Add.
The Add [Client|Server|Host] Identifier dialog box appears.

In the Name field, type a unique name or select a request/response header to use as the name for this identifier.

To select a header, click the browse button beside the Name field.
For client identifiers, the Select Request Header dialog box appears. For server identifiers and host identifiers, the Select Response Header dialog box appears. The list contains the relevant headers for the type of identifier.

Select a header.
The dialog box closes. The selected header appears in the Name field.
Optional—in the Description field, summarize the purpose for this identifier.

Click Save.
The identifier appears in the table for that type of identifier.
