Enabling pivot categories and defining their membership

You can control which pivots are globally enabled by defining the membership for each Pivot Object category on the Traffic Analysis Pivots dashboard. For example, if your organization is not interested in tracking performance on particular browsers, you can remove these browsers from the Browser Categories list. When a category has no members, the pivot is disabled.
Pivot Objects settings are inherited by analyzers. You can also define which pivot categories are enabled for endpoints and for web sites.For more information, see Enabling global pivots for web sites and endpoints.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a proliferation of unnecessary metrics, you should select only the categories and members that provide meaningful data on the performance of your web applications and sites. For location-based metrics, you may prefer to use the mapping feature available from search results, which provides the same data on demand, without saving the extra pivot data.
To define and manage pivot categories, navigate to APM > Configure > Traffic Analysis, and select Pivots.

From the Pivots Objects dashboard, you can expand any of the pivot categories to view its list of members.

When you click Add, you can add and remove members by selecting them from a list.

The lists are static with the exception of the Endpoints and Subnets pivots. The Endpoints pivot is the only pivot where the members are generate based on the IP addresses observed in monitored traffic. For the Subnets pivot, the list is populated with the monitored subnets you specified (if any). For more information, see Managing monitored subnets.

Enabling global pivots for web sites and endpoints

You can select the pivot categories you want enabled for web sites and endpoints. After you make your selections, click Save.

Configuring advanced options

Advanced options are a collection of features that, generally speaking, you use only when a need arises. The following table summarizes some situations that may require you to use these advanced options.

Storing large hit details
You cannot perform a desired task using the traffic analysis details and metrics provided by default. In this case, you can extend the functionality by creating scripts, either to evaluate analyzer conditions or to use the output of a script as a value for custom fields and custom metrics.
Managing scripts
You want to define global events that stop capturing data for in-progress sessions or sequences based on criteria defined by you.
Managing special events
Page metrics are not available for some set of URLs.
Troubleshooting improperly classified URLs
The default categorizations for the browser, browser category, and operating system hit details do not suit your needs. For example, if you see sessions with no values for these hit details, it is likely that a newly-released browser needs to be categorized.
Managing user agent rules
Some sensitive content is being missed by sensitive data policies, or some content is not being keyword indexed, or some details are not available to hit analyzers and sequence analyzers.
Defining additional parsed response types
You want to save request body content as request fields for traffic analysis purposes.
Defining captured request body types
You need to change the maximum size for responses, requests, or hit details. For example, you defined a large hit detail that exceeds the default maximum hit detail size.

Managing domain rules

Domain rules enable you to replace a domain name with one of your choice and to aggregate data among related domain names. The replacement domain name can be either an active domain name (one found in monitored traffic) or a fictitious domain name. When you assign more than one domain name to the same replacement domain name, incoming data for all original domain names are merged into a single data set under the replacement domain name.

NOTE: When merging multiple domain names, only the data captured after the domain rule is created is merged. Historical data is not affected.
For example, some web sites use aliases to redirect requests to another web site. If you are monitoring the web site acorp.com, you may also be using aliases that include: acmecorp.com, acme.com, and acc.com. By default, traffic analysis data is captured and stored separately for each alias. To report metrics accurately for acorp.com, you should create domain rules to map all the aliases to the primary web site and thereby aggregate the data.
You can also use domain rules to shorten the length of a URL, thereby improving the display and comprehension of URLs in your search results. For example, if you see acme.sectors.application.corp.com in your search results, you may want to add a domain rule to transform this site URL to acme.com.
To create domain rules, navigate to APM > Configure > Traffic Analysis, select Advanced Options, and expand Domain Rules.

In the Domain Rules view, you can add, copy, edit, and remove rules using the standard controls. You can also use the Discovery tool to identify aliases in the monitored traffic.
