Resolved Issues and Enhancements

The following is a list of issues addressed and enhancements implemented in this release.

VFOG-10420

Fixed issue where sorting large Optimizer tables was slow.

VFOG-10020

Fixed issue where deleting a snapshot  would set an incorrect "last modified date" for other snapshots.

VFOG-9061

Fixed issue where an abandoned image report did not return results when a cluster was selected as the service.

VFOG-9023

Added the ability to generate logs for the Optimizer recommendations process.

VFOG-8654

Fixed issue where CPU/Memory Limit incorrectly displayed "0" instead of "Unlimited" on ResourcePool/vApp dashboard and "Virtual Machines Available CPU and Memory" report.

VFOG-10734

The Changes History dialog now includes a "Description" column, which replaces the "State" and "Error" columns. The Foglight Resource Optimizer User Guide was not updated to document this change.

VFOG-10712

Adding constraints on an ESX Host does not change the recommendations for the VMs residing within that host.

VFOG-10662

While installing the CommonAnalytics-5_6_16.car cartridge on Foglight 5.7.5.x, the UI shows an error message. This error is caused by a temporary cartridge mismatch, and should be ignored. Continue with installing the rest of the cartridges in sequence.

The Optimizer Disk Resizer fails on a Windows® 2008 R2 server.

VFOG-9627

The following warning message appears in the server log: Warnings: No transform configured for node "OldValue"/"NewValue"

Optimizer fails to resize vApp disk.

When installing the CommonAnalytics-5_6_16.car cartridge, a lot of warnings are reported in the Management Server log file. These warnings refer to deprecated properties, and can be ignored.

Upgrade and Compatibility

Upgrade and Compatibility

The latest version of Foglight Resource Optimizer is 5.6.16.

Foglight Resource Optimizer 5.6.16 requires Management Server version 5.7.5 or later, or Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition 8.3. It also requires Foglight for VMware version 5.6.16.

To upgrade Foglight Resource Optimizer to the latest version:

  1. Download the following packages from Dell Support Portal:
    • Foglight for VMware version 5.6.16 (which includes the Virtual-VMware-5_6_16.car and Virtual-VMware-Admin-5_6_16.car cartridge files)
    • Foglight Resource Optimizer version 5.6.16 (which includes the CommonAnalytics-5_6_16.car, DRP-5_6_16.car, Optimizer-5_6_16.car, and VMware-Optimizer-5_6_16.car cartridge files)
    • Foglight Resource Optimizer Automation version 5.6.16 (which includes the OptimizerAutomation-5_6_16.car cartridge file)
  2. On the Cartridge Inventory dashboard, install the following cartridge files. Do not remove the older version of these cartridges. Install the new versions over the older versions. The sequence of cartridge installation is important because of their dependencies:
    1. DRP-5_6_16.car
    2. OptimizerAutomation-5_6_16.car
    3. CommonAnalytics-5_6_16.car
      Note: While installing the CommonAnalytics-5_6_16.car cartridge on Foglight 5.7.5.x, the UI shows an error message. This error is caused by a temporary cartridge mismatch, and should be ignored. Continue with installing the rest of the cartridges in sequence.
    4. Virtual-VMware-5_6_16.car
      Note: After installing the Virtual-VMware-5_6_16.car cartridge, existing vCenter agents (VC agents) must be updated using the Update Agent button in the VMware Environment > Administration tab.
    5. Virtual-VMware-Admin-5_6_16.car
    6. Optimizer-5_6_16.car
    7. VMware-Optimizer-5_6_16.car
