Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting

This section provides information about problems that you might encounter while monitoring your environment using Foglight for VMware Horizon View, and describes the solutions available to troubleshoot these problems.

VMware View Environment dashboard cannot display data for services running on the Transfer Server VM

Summary

When the Transfer Server VM name and the Computer name are different, the VMware View Environment dashboard cannot display information about the services running on the Transfer Server. This is due to the way the view information is collected via the VMware PowerShell commandlets.

Present workaround

  1. Create a VMware Horizon View agent using the VMware View Discovery wizard, without the VMware Performance agent configured. When you get to the All Other Inventories screen of the wizard, use the VM name of the Transfer Server to create an Infrastructure agent for monitoring.
  2. Create the VMware Performance agent, using the Agent Setup Wizard.
  3. Set the Computer name of the Transfer Server to the corresponding Infrastructure agent.
Note: You can find the Computer name on the VMware Explorer dashboard for the Transfer Server, by clicking the Summary tab > Virtual Machines tile > Summary and Resource Information view; it is listed as the DNS Name. You can also identify the Computer name on the Control Panel > System and security > System > "View basic information about your computer" screen; it is listed as Full computer name.
    1. In the Agent Status page, select the Infrastructure agent corresponding to the Transfer Server, and click Edit Properties.
    2. Click Modify the private properties for this agent.
    3. In the Properties section, copy the VM name of the Transfer Server from the Host field over into the Host name override field.
    4. In the Host field type the Computer name.
    5. Click Save.
  4. In the Credentials > Manage Credentials dashboard, find and edit the Resource Mapping on VMWview lockbox.
  5. Find the Transfer Server Resource Mapping and edit the condition to replace the VM name of the Transfer Server with the Computer name. For example, if the Transfer Server name is TransferServerTestname and the Computer name is TransferServer.vfog.local, change:
    Target Host Name matches /^(?i:TransferServerTestname)$/
    with
    Target Host Name matches /^(?i:TransferServer.vfog.local)$/
  6. In the Credentials > Manage Credentials dashboard, click Query Credential, to test whether the Computer name of the Transfer Server can use the corresponding credential, which was configured via the VMware View Discovery Wizard.
    1. Change the Credential Usage to OS Monitoring by WMI.
    2. In the Target Host > Name specify the Computer name (for example, TransferServer.vfog.local).
    3. Click Execute.
The query returns the credentials that allow you to access the specified resources. If the list is empty, return to step 4.
  7. Start the Transfer Server Infrastructure agent to collect data. In the Agent Status dashboard, select the Infrastructure agent and click Start Data Collection.
  8. Open the VMware View Environment dashboard, click the Details tab > View Infrastructure tile, and select the Transfer Sever from the Quick view. The Transfer Server Summary view now displays data correctly in all its embedded views.

Duplicate connection server and security server instances may be displayed for the View Infrastructure tile

Summary

When creating a VMware Horizon View Agent using the Discovery Wizard, if the associated vCenter agent is not already monitored, the View Infrastructure tile may display duplicated connection server and security server instances in the Quick View.

Present workaround

Important: It is recommended to create the related VMware Performance Agent before creating the VMware Horizon View Agent manually or using the Discovery Wizard.

For guidance on how to delete any stale hosts due to duplicated connection server or security server instances, contact Quest Support.

Product licensing

Product licensing

Foglight includes a licensing capability that restricts access to those features that are defined in the license. Any Management Server installation requires a license that grants access to server-specific parts of the browser interface and the features associated with them. Foglight cartridges are also license-protected. While some cartridges are covered by the base Foglight license (such as Foglight Agent Manager cartridges and Foglight for Infrastructure), others may require an additional license. Foglight for VMware Horizon View is covered by the Foglight Evolve Monitor, Operate, and Flex license and Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition license.

To activate a trial or a purchased commercial license:

  1. On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click Administration > Setup > Manage Licenses.
  2. Click Install.
  3. In the Install License dialog box, click Browse.
  4. In the file browser that appears, specify the location of the license file.
  5. In the Install License dialog box, click Install License.
