During the preparation for migrating users from Domino to Exchange Online, organizations may face challenges in maintaining full Microsoft 365 functionality, such as scheduling Teams meetings, when users are set up as mail-enabled rather than mailbox-enabled. This can lead to confusion about how to configure users properly for coexistence without disrupting services like Teams.
The issue arises from the need to configure users in a way that supports email coexistence between Domino and Exchange. Mail-enabled objects are typically used to forward emails from Exchange Online to users' existing Notes addresses in Domino. However, these objects lack a corresponding Exchange mailbox, which can restrict some Microsoft 365 services, such as the ability to schedule Teams meetings.
Understand the Purpose of Mail-Enabled Objects: Mail-enabled objects are designed for coexistence during the migration process. They ensure that email is routed from Exchange Online back to Domino for users who have not yet been fully migrated. This setup helps in maintaining communication between the two systems.
When Full Microsoft 365 Functionality Is Needed: If some users already have an Exchange Online mailbox and are using Teams, they are considered mailbox-enabled. This configuration provides full Microsoft 365 functionality, including the ability to schedule Teams meetings. For these users, email forwarding to Notes is not necessary.
