Description:
When performing a VSS quiesce of a Virtual machine prior to backup, a problem on the guest can potentially cause the quiesce to error.
Symptoms:
- The backup log shows the following error:
Failed to quiesce the guest within VM 'vm_name' uuid ‘xxx'
- The context of this message contains the following:
Proceeding to execute 'C:\nvappsnap.exe' inside guest on VM to quiesce it
Running program 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c "C:\nvappsnap.exe" /debug > C:\vmwguestcmd.log' within guest vm
Successfully ran program 'C:\nvappsnap.exe' on guest vm
Program exited with code: 2
- The backup log also shows the following job message:
Guest quiesced successfully = FALSE
- The context of which is the output of the nvappsnap.exe command:
Error in c:\[path]\nvappsnap\nvappsnap.cpp(203). Call gpComBackupComponents->SetContext(VSS_CTX_BACKUP) returned <Unknown> (0x8000ffff)
