Windows Update pulls down additional drivers after deployment? (4379891)

After deploying Windows 11 on Dell laptops using a scripted install or system image and the KACE SDA Driver Feed, administrators may notice that Windows Update installs several drivers at first login. This is expected behavior, even when the Driver Feed is configured.

• Drivers updated by the manufacturer without a version number change.
• Devices not fully supported by the current Driver Feed package.
• Newly released hardware revisions.

1. Ensure Compatibility:
   • Upgrade your KACE SDA to version 9.3 or higher for best compatibility with Windows 11. 
   • Version 9.3 is improving Driver Feed behavior by detecting changes from the manufacturer, not just version changes.
     
     
2. Verify Driver Versions:
   • Compare the drivers provided by the Driver Feed against Dell’s official Enterprise Driver Catalog: Dell Enterprise Driver Reference
   • If discrepancies are found, open a support case and reference affected Dell models: Submit Support Request
     
     
3. Use Driver Feed Builder:
   • Use the updated Driver Feed Builder Tool to capture and package drivers from a live Windows 11 system.
     
     
4. Troubleshoot with Knowledge Base:
   • KB 4248423 – Drivers download but do not install
   • KB 4306536 – Drivers not installing during deployment
     
     
5. Optional – Tighten Update Control:
   • If you prefer to limit driver updates post-deployment, consider configuring Group Policy or local settings to prevent Windows from automatically downloading drivers via Windows Update.
