Drive state shows as "foreign" after replacing drive. -
Description
After replacing a disk that has either failed or was in predictive failure state, the replaced drive is showing up in the GUI and in the output of "maintenance --hardware --show" as "foreign" instead of "online". -
Résolution
The "foreign" state means that the RAID controller detected that the disk has a RAID configuration from a different RAID array. In order for the disk to be usable in the array, the foreign configuration must be cleared.
Please ensure that you really want to use this disk in the array, as the data on the disk will be lost.
In order to clear the foreign config, you will need to log into the CLI as administrator (using ssh / putty session) and run the command:maintenance --disk --clear_foreignThis will make the disk usable in array.
