Failing to upgrade DL1X00/DL4X00 appliance to Rapid Recovery Core 6.1.3 -
Description
Rapid Recover Core 6.1.3 was a DL appliance release, in order to install Core 6.1.3, the DL Appliance must first be upgraded to allow for these changes. The Automatic upgrade cannot be used to upgrade the Rapid Recovery Core on DL appliances for this release.
In order to upgrade your DL appliance to Rapid Recovery 6.1.3, please download and install the RUU (Recovery Upgrade Utility) v.3.2.78 from the License Portal or Support Portal
After attempting to use the automatic upgrade to Rapid Recovery 6.1.3 on a DL1X00/DL4X00 appliance. The upgrade will fail with below error notification. When running the Core installer, it will also fail and prompt for running RUU (Recovery Upgrade Utility) to upgrade your DL appliance to Rapid Recovery Core 6.1.3.
Quest Core on Core-01 has reported the Error event "Automatic update has failed": Date/Time: 08/30/2017 00:01:00 +01:00 The update to the version 6.1.3.100 has failed Auto Update Exception The 'RapidRecoveryCore' service has not been stopped by the installer process within the timeout of 00:30:00. --- About this event: Update has failed
When running RUU to upgrade the Core, it fails on step 6. ' Re-install / Upgrade the Data Protection | Rapid Recovery Core' with below error.
'Data Protection | Rapid Recovery Core installation failed. An unknown error happened during the installation'

Cause
This will happen after a failed Automatic Upgrade on the DL appliance. The Automatic Upgrade process is still running in the background, blocking the installer to run as part of the RUU.

Résolution
In order to run through the RUU after a failed Automatic Upgrade.
- Stop the Core service
- Find and kill the Core update process that is still running, from Task Manager | Processes, or reboot the DL appliance.
- Run the RUU (Recovery Upgrade Utility) again.
