This article describes how to enable verbose logging for Active Roles, and gather the resulting log file named DS.log.
Active Roles diagnostic information is recorded in the DS.log file when debug logging mode is enabled.
This may be required for troubleshooting purposes.
To enable logging:
Active Roles Server 6.9 and later versions:
Option 1:
After the appropriate logging has been captured, immediately disable logging.
See attached screenshot for example: Logging-6.9.jpg, under the attachments section of this article.
Active Roles 7.x only:
Option 2:
After the appropriate logging has been captured, immediately disable logging
See attached screenshot for example: Logging-7.x.jpg, under the attachments section of this article.
Active Roles 6.9 and later:
Option 3:
To disable logging:
Log file location:
By default, the log file produced by the Active Roles Administration service is named ds.log. The file is located in the Active Roles installation folder that defaults to:
C:\Program Files\Quest Software\Quest One Active Roles
Or
C:\Program Files\One Identity\Active Roles\7.x\Service
This location can be changed using the LogPath registry key
Value name: LogPath
Log file size:
The log grows in size quickly. Therefore, it is recommended to enable logging right before and disable logging immediately after the issue has been reproduced.
The file captures any activity being performed by the service, including the tasks performed by connected users while debug logging is enabled.
There is an option to use a script to automate and optionally compress logging, if desired.
