How to domain manage the NetVault Server from a another machine.
Here are the steps to install a NetVault Server installation on a supported Operating System, that will be used only for domain managing the main NetVault Server, without having to install a NetVault Server license:
1] Make sure that no Backups are running on the NetVault Server.
2] Make sure you are logged in as the Administrator on the machine you wish to Domain Manage from (we will call this machine DMM for example).
3] Disable the Windows Firewall on the NetVault Server and your DMM machine.
4] Disable any AntiVirus Software on the NetVault Server and your DMM machine.
5] Save the NetVault zipped binary on your machine locally (never run the installation from a network share, or unzip the binary on the network share and copy the files over).
6] Totally unzip that NetVault zipped binary locally as well and you should then see a NetVault folder appear. Never run the Setup.exe whilst viewing the zipped file, otherwise it will cause installation issues.
7] Double click on the Setup.exe within that NetVault folder.
8] Select the Server installation version and follow all the onscreen default questions.
9] Once the NetVault Server Software has been successfully installed, a window will appear to confirm this for you.
10] If installed on a Windows machine, please reboot it and now you should be able to launch your NetVault GUI and Configurator. If the NetVault GUI cannot be launched, then launch the NetVault Configurator and start the NetVault Services under the Services tab.
11] Once installed, click on Administration - Domain Management within the NetVault GUI of that DMM PC.
You should be able to see the main NetVault Server under “Available NetVault Servers” on the right hand side and your DMM PC listed under “Controlled Servers” on the left hand side. You will need to Right-Click “add” the main NetVault Server from the right hand side to the Controlled Servers on the left. Then delete the DMM that you won’t be using on the left hand side (this is the machine you are controlling from and then shouldn't need a Server License in order to use it).
Close the NetVault Domain Management window and the NetVault GUI. Once opening up the NetVault GUI, you can then click on Backup and the main NetVault Server will be the first one listed in the drop down menu of each GUI item.
