Incorrectly configured incremental backups can fail with errors similar to
A backup selection set is required in order to run
or
Failed to find previous full backup for set
The contents of incremental and differential backups are based on a previous backup. There has to be a mechanism for all the indivudual jobs in the sequence to link together. NetVault uses the saved backup selection set and the node to link the jobs. If an incremental/differential job is created without using a saved selection set, this error informs the user that NetVault cannot process the job, because it does not know which job it is to use as a reference for what is already backed up.
For more information on this topic, please see the Administration Module 2-Basic Operation of NetVault Backup-Web-based Training
If there is not already a saved selection set at the time the full backup job is created one would be saved as part of the creation of the full backup. This selection set is then loaded when the incremental/differential job is created.
When creating the incremental backup, ensure that the backup selection set created for the full is loaded (as well as the full completing successfully), or it will fail with this error.
