Using the command line interface to restore your TPAM appliance.
Creating a CLI admin account:
A CLI admin user id is required for authentication. If one doesn't already exist on your appliance, it must be created in the /paradmin interface.
Login to the /paradmin interface. Go to the Sys Admin UserID menu and select Add Sys Admin UserID. Fill out the Details tab with the required information and make sure to select "CLI" from the User Interface drop down menu. Click Save Changes. Click the Download Key button and save the "id_dsa" file to your computer.
Next you will need to convert the key to the proper format for use with Putty.
Open the puttygen.exe program. Click the Conversions menu and select Import Key. Select the id_dsa file that you downloaded from TPAM. Click Save Private Key. Click Yes when asked to save without passphrase. Save the file with a .PPK extension. If you have more than one CLI user, you may want to name the file such as "username.ppk"
Connecting to the appliance:
If the network connection to the appliance is working, then you can connect that way. If you cannot connect to the appliance through the network, you will have to connect a laptop locally with a cross-over cable. In other cases, you would plug the cross-over cable into the CONFIG port. However, for restoring via the CLI, you will need to plug into the NETWORK port and connect using the network IP. You can test to make sure it is connected properly by logging into the GUI web interface.
Uploading the backup file to the appliance:
Open a Windows Command Prompt window and change to the directory where your Putty executables are located. Issue the following command:
pscp -scp -i [key file] [path/filename] [cli user name]@[host]
Example:
pscp -scp -i C:\key_file.ppk C:\path_to_backup\.zip cli_admin@10.10.10.10:backup_file_name.zip
Wait for the file to upload. It may take time if it is a large file. Then you want to issue the command to apply the restore.
plink -i [keyfile] [userid]@[PAR-address] [command] [filename]
Example:
plink -i C:\key_file.ppk cli_admin@10.10.10.10 restore backup_file_name.zip
To monitor the progress, you can view the restore log from the command line:
plink -ssh -i [keyfile] [userid]@[PAR-address] command [option]
Example:
plink -ssh -i C:\key_file.ppk cli_admin@10.10.10.10 viewlog -restore
The following programs will be required to follow these instructions. They can be dowloaded for free from http://www.putty.org
putty.exe, puttygen.exe, plink.exe, pscp.exe
