Create and Alter Defaults

Note: This topic focuses on information that may be unfamiliar to you. It does not include all step and field descriptions.

To create or alter a default

  1. Select the Default node under the Programmability node in the Object Explorer.

  2. Select one of the following:
    • Click to create a default.
    • Select a default and click to create a default like the selected one.
    • Select a default and click to alter it.
  3. Enter a value for the default.
  4. Complete the remaining pages. See Bind Defaults to Columns for more information. See Bind Defaults to UDDTs for more information.

To bind a default to a column

  1. Select the Default node under the Programmability node in the Object Explorer.

  2. Select a default or create a new one. See Create and Alter Defaults for more information.
  3. Select the Bound Columns page.
  4. Complete the fields as necessary.  Review the following for additional information:

    Table

    Select the table on which you want to bind defaults.

    Unbound columns

    Select one or more columns and click > to bind them to the table.

To bind a default to user-defined data type

  1. Select the Default node under the Programmability node in the Object Explorer.

  2. Select a default or create a new one. See Create and Alter Defaults for more information.
  3. Select the Bound UDDTs page.
  4. Complete the fields as necessary.  Review the following for additional information:

    Bind

    Select the checkbox beside each user-defined data type you want to bind to this default.

    Future Only

    Select the checkbox beside a bound data type if you want to check existing values in the column against the default value. If this checkbox is cleared, existing values are not checked.

To create or alter a synonym

  1. Select the Synonyms node under the Databases node in the Object Explorer.
  2. Select one of the following:
    • Click to create a synonym.
    • Select a synonym and click to create a synonym like the selected one.
    • Select a synonym and click to alter it.
  3. Complete the fields as necessary.  Review the following for additional information:

    Server

    Description 

    Use Current Server

    Select False to select a server for the synonym other than the current server.  

    Server

    Enter the server name for the synonym. This field is enabled when you select False in the Use Current Server field.

    Object

    Select the name of the object on which you want to apply this synonym.
