Windows Layout

The following information about rearranging the windows applies to the Batch Optimize SQL, the Scan SQL, Optimize SQL and the Inspect SGA modules.

Moving Windows in the Layout

All the windows in layout must be docked somewhere in the layout for the module. A window cannot be floating on its own. A window in the layout cannot be closed or entirely removed from the layout.

To move a window

» Click and drag the title bar of the window to the new location in the module layout.

Restoring the Default Layouts

You can restore the default layout for a module or for all modules.

To restore the default layout

  1. Click in the main menu of any SQL Optimizer window.

  2. Select General | Options.

  3. Click Restore.

  4. Then select either Restore All or Restore selected layouts and select specify layouts.

Hiding and Showing Windows

Hiding a window closes the main portion of a window and leaves only the title bar of the window visible.

To hide a window

» Click in the top right corner of the window.

To show a window

  1. Move your cursor over the title of the window. This temporary pops open the window.

  2. Click .

 

 

 

Customize Toolbars

Show Captions

On a toolbar, you can include the toolbar captions to the right of each button.

To toggle between displaying or not displaying the Toolbar captions

» Right-click anywhere on a Toolbar and select Show Captions.

Add or Remove Buttons

You can add or remove the buttons from a toolbar.

To add or remove a button from the toolbar

  1. Click found at the right edge of the toolbar.

  2. Select Add or Remove Buttons | Window_name Toolbar and then select or clear the checkbox to the left of the button to add or remove the button.

Enlarge the Size of the Buttons

You can enlarge the size of the buttons on the toolbar.

To enlarge the button size

  1. Right-click anywhere on the toolbar and select Customize.

  2. Click the Options tab.

  3. Check Large Icons.

  4. Click Close.

 

 

Keyboard Shortcuts

Use the following keyboard shortcuts for commands that you use repeatedly. Keyboard shortcuts can improve the efficiency of your workflow as you navigate the SQL Optimizer user interface.

Navigate to next UI element Tab

Use to move to the next UI element in a dialog or window.

Use to move between tabs in a pop-up pane.

Navigate to previous UI element Shift+Tab Use to move to the previous UI element in a dialog or window.
Open pop-up menu from link Space

Opens the pop-up menu from the selected link.

Select menu items Up/Down Arrows

Use to select (highlight) menu items or list items. Press Enter to submit the item.

Use to move between items in the selected pane.

Submit (button or link) Space

Submits the selected button.

Submits the selected link.

Submit (dialog) Enter

Use to submit your specifications and close the dialog or window (same action as the OK button).

Submits the selected (highlighted) menu item or list item.

Submits the selected button.

Open toolbar sub-menu Enter Opens the sub-menu from the selected toolbar button.
Cancel (dialog) Esc

Use to cancel your specifications and close the dialog or window (same action as the Cancel button).

Close drop-down list Esc Closes an open drop-down list, pop-up menu from a link, or toolbar sub-menu.
Scroll vertically

Ctrl+Up Arrow

Ctrl+Down Arrow

Use to scroll up and down in a window.
Scroll horizontally

Ctrl+Left Arrow

Ctrl+Right Arrow

Use to scroll left and right in a window.
Ellipses button Alt+Period Opens the dialog associated with the ellipses button in focus.
Open drop-down list Alt+Down Arrow Opens the drop-down list associated with the down arrow button in focus.
Open right-click (context-sensitive) menu Application key Use to open the right-click or context-sensitive menu for the selected item in a data grid.
Refresh F5 Use to refresh a window or list that has a Refresh button.

 

  

Support Bundle

The Support Bundle provides any easy way for you to contact Quest technical support to report a problem or ask a question. It includes information about each module of the application and your local computer; and can be used to help troubleshoot problems.  

To create a support bundle

  1. Select Help | Support Bundle.

  2. Click Online Support to open the Quest Support Portal at https://support.quest.com/sql-optimizer-for-oracle/.
  3. Click Save and Close to save the support bundle as a zip file. Upload the support bundle zip file when you contact Quest technical support.
